DIBRUGARH: Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh will be arriving at Assam's Dibrugarh Airport at 4 PM today. The minister is on a 3-day visit to Assam and Arunachal and will take part in a special program organized at Dinjan army camp.
The minister will then fly to the neighboring state Arunachal Pradesh the next day and will take stock of the security situation in the state and also will be inspecting the ongoing work in Sela Tunnel. The minister will return to Assam that very day and will then take a flight to New Delhi on Thursday evening.
Security is beefed up at the Dibrugarh Airport to welcome the Defence Minister who would then be escorted by a convoy of army vehicles to Dinjan army camp in Assam's Tinsukia district.
Defence Minister Singh visited Assam earlier this year on April 23 to take part in a function organized to honor the war heroes of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Defence Minister Singh also took to the micro-blogging site to announce his three-day visit to Assam and Arunachal and said, "Leaving New Delhi for a three-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. I shall be interacting with troops and also review the progress of the Sela tunnel, during the visit. Looking forward to it."
The Defence minister's itinerary mentions the inspection of the excavation work that is going on in the Sela Tunnel which when completed will give India a strategic and military edge over bordering China and it will also be the highest operable altitude in the country at 13000 feet above the sea level.
