RANGAPARA: The common masses of greater Rangapara area in the Sonitpur district have expressed their resentment over the slow-paced work of the multi-crore flyover project in the busy township.

Rangapara town, also known as 'rail city' with a growing population and close proximity to a number of tea gardens and the BG rail junction, has always remained one of the busiest townships in the belt witnessing 24 x 7 hour heavy traffic. The town is also considered as one of the nerve centres for trade and commerce and education for the people of the northern belt of the region while the BG railway line passes through it connecting Murkokselek with other important parts of the world through Rangia junction, thereby remaining a crowd-pulling city.

However, responding to the long-pending demand of flyover in the town, the government in a bid to curb the ever increasing traffic snarls and facilitate better vehicular movement, proposed the 1.3 km-long three-arm flyover linking Rangapara town towards Barjuli-Misamari and Phulbari-Balipara road towards rail crossing and Rangapara town-Bagijuli (police station and railway office) road was proposed to be constructed in the area and accordingly MP of Tezpur HPC, Pallab Lochan Das laid the foundation stone of the big budget project in the year 2017 and the construction work started in 2018 with an allocation of Rs. 92 crore.

However, though the citizens of this historic city hoped to get it completed within two years, due to many reasons, including the COVID pandemic situation, it is yet to be completed resulting in a chaotic traffic situation in the town. Socially conscious section of the town mentioned that due to the incompletion of the flyover, frequent accidents have occurred in the area. Moreover, as there are a number of important institutions near the flyover like schools, the Railway colony, Rangapara PS and veterinary hospital and due to the slow-paced construction of the flyover, people are facing an awkward situation. Also the small vendors in the area alleged that due to the incomplete work, their business has been hampered since the last three years. People have urged the authorities concerned to complete the flyover soon.
