Bongaigaon: The All Assam Kalita Students' Union (AAKSU), Bongaigaon district committee staged a protest on Wednesday at Gandhi Field of Bongaigaon. They demanded equal right and respect to all communities in the Kamatapur Autonomous Council. Dipankar Kalita, general secretary of AAKSU, said that they had no objection to formation of Kamatapur Autonomous Council. "But as we have come to know, only rights of Koch-Rajbanshi people will be given priority in this council. This is completely illegal and betrayal to other people of the area. The people of all communities living in the region of Kamatapur should have equal rights. We demand the government to ensure equal right and respect to all community people in this autonomous council otherwise we will form massive democratic agitation in the coming days," he said. Nilmoni Kalita, Bongaigaon district president of the organization, Soneswar Kalita, former president of Kalita Janagosthi Sanmilani, were present in the protest.
