HAFLONG: Reiterating the demands for proper passengers’ amenities like stoppage of four important trains, Foot Over Bridge and Reservation counter at Maibang Railway Station, the All Dimasa Students’ Union Maibang zone threatened that if the railway authority did not quickly implement all of the amenities, it would be forced to call for a rail blockade.

Mairing Johori, general secretary of ADSU Central Committee informed that they have been repeatedly communicating with the railway authority at Maligaon for the implementation of proper passengers’ amenities at Maibang for long and also held discussions regarding the people’s demands and the railway authority had been assuring to fulfil their demands. Johori experiencing such delay- dallying tactics of the railway authorities said, “We have lost faith in the railway authority because they seemed to buy time on plea after plea, forcing us to begin a serious agitation shortly.”

The people of Maibang, in particular, expressed their happiness at the Railway Ministry's decision to upgrade New Haflong Railway Station to a first-class facility with all the amenities for passengers, but they were perplexed as to why the railway authority could not adequately respond to their demands even after several people died in run-over accidents because Maibang lacked a foot overbridge. Another claim is that Maibang, the former capital of the Dimasa Kingdom, has long been regarded as a significant location, but that Dima Hasao residents as a whole were alarmed by the railway authority's disregard for Maibang.
