LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Committee of Sodou Asom Kaibarta Yuva-Chatra Sanmilan has demanded the State Government and Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes to cover more students in the scholarship scheme meant for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC).

In this connection, the Lakhimpur district unit president of the organization, Partha Das, based on information received under RTI Act, 2005, expressed strong reaction through a press release on Thursday. In the press release, he said that the State Government had completed its responsibility by disbursing the scholarship to very less number of SC students since 2013.

"Actually, the State Government has not paid due attention what should be paid to the SC students for their welfare. Such attitude on the part of the State Government as well as the Directorate concerned has affected adversely upon the progress of a large number of poverty-stricken students belonging to the SC. Had the scheme been well-executed in the State, thousands of students in Lakhimpur district belonging to the community would have been benefitted with it,", the press release stated.
