TEZPUR: The alumni of Tezpur University's department of Mass Communication and Journalism condoled the untimely demise of Dr. P. Anbarasan, an associate professor of the university. Dr. Anbarasan, regarded as a committed and one of the highly accomplished journalism educators in the country, passed away in Chennai on the morning of April 7 after months of battle with cancer. He was 58 at the time of his demise.

The Global Alumni Association: Tezpur University Mass Communication and Journalism (GAATU-MCJ) issued a statement, paying rich tributes to Dr. Anbarasan. "Dr. Anbarasan exemplified the best ethos and practices in academics. For the journalism students of Tezpur University, he was more than a teacher. In the truest sense, he was a friend, philosopher and guide for the young students of the journalism department," said Sachin Gogoi, the president of the GAATU-MCJ and a journalist with the BBC.

Gogoi added, "Dr. Anbarasan, a native of Tamil Nadu, had warmly embraced Tezpur University and Assam. Many of his academic projects and research papers were centred around Assam. We have lost an eminent academician who had contributed silently and immensely to Tezpur University and Assam."
