DEMOW: An order from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar on Wednesday stated that it had been reported that some traders of essential commodities were realizing higher prices unjustifiably from the consumers of Sivasagar, taking opportunity of the situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. In view of this, Bishnu Kamal Borah, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Sivasagar, in exercising the power conferred under Section 34 (m) of the Disaster Management Act 2005, has fixed the rates of major essential commodities for a period of 15 days w.e.f May 19. The rates will be reviewed after one week and this order is valid throughout the district.

Further, all wholesalers must possess purchase documents in support of the commodities purchased from source and they have to issue cash memo to every retailer invariably based on arrival cost of items. Similarly, retailers of the district must possess cash memos/purchase vouchers against purchase of commodities from the wholesalers. Action will be initiated against the traders found violating the above order as per provisions of law in force.
