Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan commemorated in Darrang

Along with the rest of the districts of the State, Darrang too on Wednesday observed Desh Bhakti Divas to commemorate Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his death anniversary.

MANGALDAI: Along with the rest of the districts of the State, Darrang too on Wednesday observed Desh Bhakti Divas to commemorate Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his death anniversary.

A programme was held at the office of the District Information and Public Relations Officer. Deputy Commissioner Prabhati Thaosen, as the chief guest, paid rich tribute this great son of Assam through her enriched speech. The Deputy Commissioner also appreciated the decision of the Government of Assam to observe Desh Bhakti Divas on July 28 every year, and expressed confidence that the new generation which was hitherto unaware of this great son of Assam, would walk on the path of idealism and patriotism of the 'Desh Bhakta' after getting to know more about him.

Representing the freedom fighters and their family members, senior journalist Bhargab Das, son of freedom fighter Paniram Das, and Kamaleswar Deka, son of freedom fighter Sachindra Deka, who could not be present due to old-age related reasons, spoke about the importance of such events, especially at a time when materialism was gradually replacing idealism in the minds of a section of youngsters. They also spoke briefly about many interesting facts of the Desh Bhakta.

The meeting was also attended by educationist Budhin Hazarika, Assistant Commissioners Rini Hazarika and Simanta Basumatary.
