DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of the Bhanubhakta Yuba Sangha and Bhanupriya Mahila Samity, 'Deuchi Bidai Utsav' or 'Deuchi Uruwa' of the Gorkhas was celebrated on Tuesday at the public auditorium of Rangpur village, Phillobari.

In the beginning of the programme, Tanko Bahadur Thapa, president of Bhanubhakta Yuba Sangha, inaugurated the stage by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Thereafter, along with Gorkha ethnic dances, Deuchi Bhoili was performed on the stage.

The Gorkhas usually celebrate the Tihar festival during the period from the night of no moon to the full moon with much fanfare. The Gorkha youths and girls take much pleasure in performing 'Deuchi' and 'Bhoili' from house-to-house. But because of the corona pandemic this year, the enthusiasm for the festival was marred to a great extent.
