GUWAHATI: The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale laid the foundation stone of Barpeta Baghbar Road at Barpeta on Monday. The length of the road is 27.5 km. The total cost for widening and improvement of the road will be Rs 96.18 crore.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Athawale said that transparent and good quality work is the primary focus of this government and the development of roads is always a priority. Mentioning that National Highways are being constructed to boost the economic development of the country Athwale said that the government is emphasizing the construction of the road in every village and town. The minister also said that various developmental schemes are being implemented in the North East region and construction and improvement of roads is one of them.
The minister also mentioned that the budget under the ministry of Social Justice and empowerment is approximately Rs 81 thousand crores for this financial year and this will be invested for social welfare and empowerment of every section of the society.
Speaking on the occasion Ranjit Das, Chairman of Housefed corporation, Government of Assam said that by the construction of this road the government of India is fulfilling the long pending demand of the people of this area. The construction of this road will enhance the economic and social development of the area, he added.
The MLAs of Barpeta, Baghbar, Jania , Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion, stated a press release.
