LAKHIMPUR: The Dhemaji district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has expressed strong reaction over various points which were expressed by Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal while delivering his speech attending the OBC Marcha executive session held in the district on Friday.
In a press release, Dhemaji AASU president DipakDarnah and general secretary KalyanGogoi said that the act of disseminating false information on the part of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in his speech was a matter of grievous concern.
"The act of saying that there is no flood problem in Dhemaji in the presence of Dhemaji MLA Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu and Lakhimpur MP PradanBaruah is nothing but disrespect to the flood affected people of the district who are still suffering a lot in adversity. The flood havoc wreaked by river Chiyang, Lali, Jiyadhol, Simen has still been there in the district. Due to the massive impact of consecutive flood, the ministers of his Cabinet were compelled to visit the district one after another in the past days," stated the AASU Dhemaji unit.
"The Chief Minister himself visited Jonai in order to take stock of the flood situation. The Chief Minister and the Water Resources Department Minister KeshabMahanta went back just inspecting the Stone Guide Bandh constructed by National Highway Authority of India at River Kumatiya some days ago without inspecting the unplugged embankment of River Jiyadhol. This visit was later made public through social media with false information. The ignorance of the Chief Minister about the flood and erosion problem of Dhemaji is unfortunate. The MLA and the MP concerned are trying to mislead the Chief Minister in order to achieve admiration from him", the Dhemaji AASU president and the general secretary stated in the release.
The release further stated the Chief Minister's declaration of running 12 trains from Jonai to Guwahati was also not true.
"Dhemaji AASU had been demanding the running of Rajdhani Express Train through the district since the day on which the Bogibeelbridge was inaugurated. Though the Rajdhani Express Train has been running at present from Dibrugarh to New Delhi through Dhemaji, no storage of the train in any station under the district was designated which is a matter of deep concern", the press release said.
Under such circumstances, Dhemaji AASU demanded to manage stoppage of the train in Dhemaji station. The organization further demanded the Chief Minister to resolve the flood and erosion problem of the district along with crucial problems in road communication, academic sector, health sector, Assam-Arunachal border dispute etc.
