DHUBRI: “Colleague”, an organisation of Dhubri conducted an awareness programme on road safety in Dhubri Green Nursery School recently. The meeting expressed deep concern over increasing road mishaps and called upon all stakeholders to come forward and address this issue.

Addressing the gathering, chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal highlighted the need to revive the defunct District Road Safety Committee and proposed stategic measures for areas where law enforcement has been lagging behind while a prominent media person,Tarakeswar Paul drew attention to reckless driving of erickshaws resulting traffic congestion in the town. Dhubri District Transport Officer (DTO), Purobi Kalita while speaking at the meeting said that  they all need to address aiming at to reduce the alarming number of road mishap and appealed all to adhere to safety rules while riding or driving as there had been 130 deaths in the month of November last year in Dhubri district.

President of “Colleague”, Shyamal Kumar Dutta responded to the appeal of DTO and assured that the organisation is committed to participate in the awareness programmes whenever called upon by the DTO. In his address, secretary of Colleague Madhab Chandra Paul spoke at length on the objective of the programme and laid stressed on the need to educate and raise awareness among the masses to minimize road accidents while Kamakhya Ganguly delivered a comprehensive speech on road safety measures with the Powerpoint presentation. In his closing remarks, Kalyan Ghosh offered a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to all attendees and stakeholders.
