DHUBRI: Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Anant Lal Gyani appealed to the community Durga Puja organizers to bring down the number of community Puja this year in view of COVID-19, in a meeting chaired by him at his conference hall on Saturday.

Nearly 400 community puja programmes are held across the Dhubri district including 109 alone in Dhubri town and its suburbs. Due to the growing cases of COVID-19 for last one month, Dhubri District Administration held the meeting with the organizers to find out a solution as it could be disastrous if all the committees are allowed to organize Puja and COVID 19 protocols are not followed. Gyani said that it was an instruction from the government to allow one community Puja to be held within one kilometre radius besides traditional community Puja held in the temples for long years.

"The rate of growing cases of COVID-19 patients is alarming in Dhubri district and it will be at peak around Puja next month. I appeal all of you to sit and discuss the issue and motivate the community Puja organizers, so that the number could be minimized as we cannot allow to break the COVID-19 protocols in the greater interest of the people," Gyani explained. Secretary of Dhubri Community Puja Co-ordination Committee, Kalyan Purkayastha expressed the Committee's inability to convince any Community Puja organizer not to organise Puja. "But still we will discuss and inform you whatever decision comes out after meeting with community Puja organisers soon", Purksyastha said.
