Dhubri Mela Committee spends Rs. 8.74 lakh for charity work

Dhubri: The Dhubri Mela Committee spent Rs. 8.74 lakh in charity during 2018-19 from the surplus of fund that was generated from the mela (fair) of 2018. This was informed by the general secretary, Ganesh Sen during the inaugural function of the 51st Ashoka Austami Mela which was formally inaugurated by veteran and ardent social worker of Dhubri town, Ramswarup Harlalka on Friday.

Sen while reading out his secretarial report, informed that the committee at the request of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani contributed Rs 5 lakh for construction of boundary fencing of historic Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Maidan, Rs.50,000 to Pallimangal Club, Rs. 60,000 to three temple committees and Rs. 50,000 to Bharat Seva Ashram of Dhubri town. “Apart from these, the committee also spent Rs. 1.90 lakh against the medicines purchased for the poorest of poor people on every Sunday and Rs. 24,000 for imparting computer training to needy and poor youths during 2018-19,” Sen further added.

Like every year, this year too, the committee felicitated four prominent persons in their respective fields for their contribution to the society. The committee felicitated poetess, Dipti Dutta for her contribution in the field of literary works, Suchibrata Singha Roy Choudhury for social work, Abdur Rahman for his contribution in the field of social work and sports and Saroj Kumari Pandey Dubey, wife of Parshuram Dubey, who was an ardent social worker and amiable person. Chief Executive Officer of Dhubri Zila Parishad, Purabi Konwar and vice-president of the committee, Partha Pratim Ghose addressed the meeting.
