Dhubri Police started property attachment of cattle smugglers under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021

DHUBRI: Dhubri Police started property attachment of cattle smugglers under the the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 from Thursday. First attachment under the Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2021 was done against Abu Taher Md Nazrul Islam Sheikh under Golakganj Police Station vide case no. 191/2022 u/s 379/411/120 (B) IPC r/w section 13(1) of the Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2021.

The accused person was arrested on May 31, 2022 during an anti-cattle smuggling operation while he was leading and guiding his associates rowing a boat laden with cattle to a safe destination. The accused person is at the helm of the network of cattle smugglers operating in Golakganj area and has indulged in this illegal activity for quite a long time. He has accumulated sizable wealth over the last few years and uses his movable and immovable assets to facilitate and operate the network of cattle smuggling. The accused person is a habitual offender and was previously arrested in connection with Golakganj PS case no. 374/08 u/s 120 B/121/121 A/122/123 IPC r/w section 3/4 of Explosive Substances Act.

The total value of his property attached and seized is Rs 65,68,359.67. When contacted, Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gurav Dilip informed that few more attachments were on the cards and would be done soon.
