DHUBRI: The ad-hoc body of Dhubri Red Cross Society was formed after a gap of 10 years with the initiative of the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner recently. In a meeting held in the DC conference hall, represented by life and newly-inducted members, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani made a clarion call to extend all support to the newly-formed society.
“It was defunct for the past many years, which deprived a large number of victims of calamities. Had there been an active Red Cross Society in Dhubri, we could have been able to get relief for them. But non-existence of the Red Cross Society in Dhubri deprived victims of relief,” Gyani said.
A 31-member ad-hoc committee of Red Cross Society was formed headed by Dr. Debamoy Sanyal as the president and Rajiv Sarma as the secretary. Dr. Sanyal, while talking to The Sentinel after the formation of the body, said that it was a daunting task imposed on him to serve the people in need and he accepted it as a challenge.
Newly-elected secretary of Red Cross Society, Rajiv Sarma sought cooperation from the office bearers and members of society to carry forward the activities.
Earlier, chairman of the District Branch Development Committee of the Indian Red Cross Society, Dr. Sarbeswar Bujarbarua explained the objective of the society and spoke at a length on function, rules, and guidelines of the organization. Human Resource and Administrative Officer of State Branch of the society, Girindra Nath Goswami also addressed the meeting and urged upon the office bearers and members to start the functioning of the Dhubri unit of the organization at the earliest possible with a drive to enroll more and more members in the society. Dhubri District Development Commissioner Banashree Nath offered the vote of thanks.
