DIBRUGARH: On Monday night, Dibrugarh police detained the sixth suspect in connection with the October 31 shooting incident in Laluka on the NH-37 over a property dispute. The shooting involved a local court employee.
A 9mm pistol that was used to shoot Siddhartha Rajkhowa was found after Arup Gogoi, also known as Tippo, (28) was detained and then interrogated.
Pradipta Rajkhowa, a relative of Siddhartha, and four other people were first detained by police in connection with the event. Investigation revealed that while Pradipta was riding a pillion and Arup was operating the motorcycle, the latter fired shots at Siddhartha from a close distance. A blank 9mm handgun cartridge that had been shot during the incident was found there thereafter.
Due to their marriages to the sisters of each other, Pradipta and Arup are related.
The Dibrugarh Police found the 9 mm pistol that was involved in the shooting incident that took place in Laluka Village on October 31.
The pistol was discovered in Jopora Gaon, in the Assamese Dibrugarh District, close to a pond. Regarding the shooting incident, the police nabbed one Tipu. The Dibrugarh Police detained 5 individuals till yesterday in relation to this event.
On the evening of October 31, a middle-aged man was shot by an anonymous bunch of miscreants, who left him with serious wounds. When the event was reported to a tyre shop nearby the village of Laluka, the police were notified right away. The man stopped close to the tyre shop as he was making his way toward Dibrugarh University. Two hooded assailants quickly shot him in the stomach.
The criminals were able to escape after the incident. Fortunately, the bullet wound did not prove lethal despite being fired at point-blank range, according to sources. Siddharth Rajkonwar, the victim, stumbled a short distance before collapsing to the ground. The attack's motivation is still a mystery.
