Dibrugarh: The district-level competitions under Mukhya Montrir Mohila Kriya Pratiyogita, 2019-2020 were held in Dibrugarh district on Wednesday with the objective to promote and popularize games and sports amongst women in the district.
Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha inaugurated the competitions by hoisting the ceremonial flag in an inaugural function held in the playground No. 2 of Dibrugarh University, which was organized by Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Government of Assam.
The inaugural function was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Susanta Kumar Dutta, assistant general secretary of Assam Olympic Association, Niranjan Saikia, District Sports Officer Dhrubajyoti Deka and other dignitaries.
A total of 84 participants, 12 from each development block, who were selected through block-level competitions, participated in 11 sporting disciplines such as high jump, shot put, discus, javelin throw and 4×100 metre relay. The winners were awarded during the Dibrugarh Mukhya Montrir Mohila Kriya Pratiyogita, 2019-2020 held in Dibrugarh. During the inaugural function, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Jha also interacted with the participants and stressed the need of such competitions to promote the talent of female players from rural areas of the district in the field of sports.
