Dibrugarh DC Pallav Gopal Jha reviews & assesses flood preparedness of departments

Dibrugarh: A district-level flood preparedness meeting was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Dibrugarh on Tuesday. The meeting, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and chairman of DDMA, Dibrugarh, Pallav Gopal Jha, reviewed and assessed the flood preparedness of different departments in the district. A detailed discussion was also held in the meeting on the actions to be initiated by circle officers and other government departments during a probable flood situation.

Reviewing preparedness issues in respect of probable flood situation in the district, Deputy Commissioner Jha directed all circle officers to visit flood-prone areas within their jurisdiction and identify relief camps at vulnerable points from their respective circles. He further directed them to assess the availability of basic facilities such as drinking water, toilet and electric supply in the camps. He also directed circle officers to conduct training for relief camp officials to make them aware of their duties and responsibilities. Circle officers were also directed to identify and train local volunteers so that immediate preventive measures to control flood and erosion can be taken.

Stressing the need for proper and timely flood damage reporting during flood situation, DC Jha directed officials of PWD, Education, Health and Social Welfare to submit report on daily basis in case of any damage to departmental infrastructures such as roads, schools, health institutions, and Anganwadi centers during flood period so that claims against the damaged infrastructure can be made later. The water resources department officials were also asked to visit and monitor the present status of embankments in the district. Similarly, APDCL officials were also asked to assess vulnerable electric points which were in a dangerous condition and to rectify the same. The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Dipu Kumar Deka and Rajib Thapa.
