DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Police team in association with Nagaon Police has tracked down the absconding couple - Dr Siddi Prasad Deori (61), of Assam Medical College & Hospital and his wife, former editor of 'Dainik Bhumiputra' and Principal of Moran College, Dr Mitali Konwar Deori (55), at Roha while they were travelling in their own car bearing registration no; AS-06-83839 towards Upper Assam . Both, who were main accused in case no 1443/29/20 under section 344, 326/34 Indian Penal code read with Sec 14 of child and adolescence labour prohibition Act and 75 Juvenile justice care and protection of Children Act, 2015, registered in Dibrugarh Police Station on Aug 31 were arrested on Saturday night near Tolgate at Roha and brought back them to Dibrugarh.

"Legal procedure against both accused is under process," said Superintendent of police, Prateek Vijay T. All four accused persons have been arrested including Priyangsu Deori and Dr Upasana Deori, son and daughter of Deori Couple on September 3 and 4 respectively from Ghoramara under Lahowal PS and Gourisagarh in Sivsagar District.

Members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA), and child line, accusing police for their utter failure to arrest despite filing of FIR against them for child abuse, on August 31 , staged dharma in front of Sadar Police Station on Thursday and torch rally on Friday.. Similar agitational programmes were also observed by ATTSA and students of Moran College demanding arrest of couple and suspension of Dr Mitali Konwar from Principal post of Moran College. The agitators also burnt the effigy of Dr Mitali Konwar. Various organizations in General and ATTSA in particular took out protest rally at Moran, Charaideo, Namrup demanding arrest of Dr Siddi Prasad Konwar and Dr Mitali Konwar, the main accused in inhuman torture to the 12-year-old minor engaged in their residence at Milannagarh as a domestic help. Victims' father is a care taker of Dr Siddhi Prasad Deori's ancestral properties at Nam Deori village in Sibsagar District

CWC and childline activists, on being informed about the incident that Dr Deori and his wife threw a bowl of boiling water while the minor boy was in sleep. As a result, the minor boy sustained severe burn injury in neck and other parts of the body. CWC and Childline activists rescued the victim, from Dr Siddi Prasad Deori's residence at Milannagarh and registered a case against the couple.

Addressing the mediapersons on Sunday at Dibrugarh Police Station, S.P said, "The victim is recuperating from his injury."
