Dibrugarh Police Recovers Pistol Used in Oct 31 Shooting Incident

GUWAHATI: A 9 mm pistol used in the shooting incident that happened at Laluka Village on October 31, was recovered by the Dibrugarh Police.

The pistol was found close to a pond in Jopora Gaon of Dibrugarh District of Assam. The police detained one Tipu, in relation to the shooting incident. So far 5 people in connection with this incident have been arrested by the Dibrugarh Police.

The shooting incident took place on the evening of October 31, when an unidentified group of miscreants shot at a middle-aged man, leaving him with severe wounds. A tyre shop close to the village of Laluka received the report of the incident and the police were informed immediately. The man was travelling toward Dibrugarh University when he stopped close to the tyre shop. He was suddenly shot in the stomach by two masked criminals. After the encounter, the miscreants were able to leave the area.Despite being fired at point blank range, the bullet wound fortunately did not prove fatal, according to sources. The victim, Siddharth Rajkonwar, limped a short distance before falling on the ground. The motive for the attack still remains unclear.

It may be mentioned here that, last month, the Dibrugarh Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 50000 to anyone who can provide information regarding the recovery of the pistol. The police asked the local people to reach out to Dibrugarh Police through twitter or contact the Superintendent of Police through WhatsApp.

In a related case, on Sunday night the 'supari killer' who was arrested in connection to the Lumding firing incident died in a police encounter on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Mohan Kumar, was shot dead by cops, allegedly in his bid to shoot at police personnel. As per reports, on Sunday night, Lumding Police had taken Kumar to the spot where the pistols used in the incident were allegedly hidden. As part of the search drive, the police recovered two hand-made pistols.

However, at one point in time, Kumar tried to escape the police by taking hold of a .32 pistol. Kumar tried to fire at the police but missed and hit their vehicle instead.

In their bid to fire back and retaliate, the police fired bullets at Kumar as well, and as a result, Kumar sustained serious injuries during the encounter. Reportedly, Kumar was taken to a hospital later on, but he succumbed to his injuries and the doctors declared him dead.
