Dibrugarh police yet to arrest anyone in Dholajan incident

Dibrugarh police have yet to arrest a single person involved in the gruesome killing of Sunit Tanti at Dholajan Tea estate

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh police have yet to arrest a single person involved in the gruesome killing of Sunit Tanti at Dholajan Tea estate under Rohmoria police outpost in Dibrugarh. Dholajan Tea estate is around 25 kms from Dibrugarh.

According to reports, Sunit Tanti on Saturday killed a 5-year old minor Ujjal Mura by sliting his throat. The minor died on the spot. Later, the agitated people of the tea garden chased Sunit Tanti and burnt him alive. The situation is still tense at Dholajan Tea estate.

"We have not arrested anyone in conection with the case because the situation is still tense in the tea garden," said a police official. The incident has created a spell of fear among the people in the tea garden.

Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, "The minor along with other small kids were playing in the compound of Sunit Tanti on Saturday. Suddenly he got angry and killed the minor by sliting his throat with a sharp knife. Later, people chased him and burnt him alive."

Talking to The Sentinel, Dibrugarh Deputy Comissioner Biswajit Pegu on Sunday confirmed no inquiry has been initiated yet. "The police is investigating the case. We will cause inquiry once we get hold of a preliminary investigation report from the police." On the other hand, Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) condemned the incident and demand for an inquiry into the incident.
