DIBRUGARH: Noise pollution has severely affected people’s lives. Noise pollution also adversely affects people’s thinking power. Therefore, the Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Sujmall Kanoi College and Pollution Control Board of Assam are preparing to declare Dibrugarh district as a ‘No Horn’ district to prevent noise pollution.
The decision was taken at an online discussion on the evening of April 29, Dr. Achintha Bezbarua, Academic Advisor of DHS Kanai College and Professor of Dakota University, USA, led the program and spoke about implementing a project with students, teachers and the general public to prevent noise pollution.
The Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Shantanu Kumar Dutta praised the project undertaken by DHS Kanoi College and said that Dibrugarh district will be declared as a ‘No Horn’ district soon. He said the government will also seek the assistance of the district administration in this regard.
The meeting briefing was done by Dr. Sunanda Sahu, Professor in-charge, International and Industrial Relations. Principal Dr.Sashikanta Saikia, DHS Kanoi College, said that noise pollution affects the environment, quality of life, health, hearing loss, insomnia, health problems, increased stress, communication difficulties. The event was attended by several other officials from different parts of Assam. A committee of students and teachers has already been formed at DHS Kanoi College under this project. If all goes well, Dibrugarh district is expected to become the first soundless district in Assam by January.
