Dibrugarh University professor arrested for posting obscene video

DIBRUGARH: Police, on the basis of an FIR lodged by Dibrugarh University's Registrar, Dr HC Mahanta, arrested Assistant Professor of the Mathematics Department, Dhrubajit Choudhury on charges of posting obscene video online.

Police claimed that he had confessed his act and disclosed that the video had been recorded in a hotel in Guwahati three years back. On the basis of his confession, police recovered the camera in which Choudhury recorded the obscene video and seized Choudhury's laptop and mobile phone.

Superintendent of Police, Srijeeth T, while answering queries of media persons, had denied any involvement of a student of Dibrugarh University, Assam in this incident. Police registered a case against Choudhury under section 294A, 500, and 506.

Meanwhile, the DU authority has constituted an inquiry committee to this effect and asked the committee to submit the report within 48 hours. After receiving the report, the authority will decide the fate of Choudhury.

Earlier, the DU authority had issued a show cause notice to Choudhury after some videos he had posted online became viral in the DU community. After getting reply on show cause notice, the authority had no other option except to approach police, sources added.
