TINSUKIA: In the wake of a series of protests by teachers, employees and students of Dibrugarh University against alleged financial scam committed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Ranjit Tamuli, the Special Executive Council (EC), in its meeting held on Wednesday with Prof RNS Yadav, Vice-Chancellor i/c in the chair, has placed Dr Hari Chandra Mahanta, the Registrar of the university, along with Diganta Borah, Deputy Registrar (F&A), under suspension (vide No DU/VC/2021/ Special EC/ 001 & 002) with immediate effect and they have been asked to cooperate with the Fact Finding Committee constituted by the Chancellor, Dibrugarh University and also the Fact Finding Committee constituted by the EC.

While the 4-member Fact Finding Committee headed by Preetom Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Higher Education Department, camping at Dibrugarh University and interacting with agitating bodies will examine financial irregularities against Prof Tamuli who has been allegedly accused of submitting fake invoices, bills and embezzlement of university fund in connivance with other officials of the university, the Fact Finding Committee constituted by the EC will deal with subordinate officials of the university about their involvement in the scam, informed a senior faculty member, adding that Dr HC Mahanta was once suspended earlier also while he was officiating as Controller of Examinations of the University.

The order issued by the VC i/c has placed Prof Jiten Hazarika of the Department of Statistics and Director DODL as Registrar i/c and Dr Paramananda Sonowal, Joint Registrar (Admn) as Deputy Registrar (F&A) till completion of the disciplinary proceedings.
