Dibrugarh's Zaloni Tea Estate records 123 COVID cases in 3 days

While Assam’s COVID-19 scenario continues to be grim due to the rapid surge in positive cases, Zaloni Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district recorded 123 cases in the past three days.

DIGBOI: While Assam's COVID-19 scenario continues to be grim due to the rapid surge in positive cases, Zaloni Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district recorded 123 cases in the past three days. "Out of 200 tests conducted on May 3, 39 tested positive from Jhutlibari area while additional 32 workers were detected with positive on May 4 during the RAT conducted upon another 200 persons. While out of 250 RAT conducted today, fresh 42 garden workers were found to be infected taking the total tally to 123 positive cases," informed Apoorva Kumar Sharma, the Medicine Inspector of Plantations during his telephonic conversation with The Sentinel on Wednesday evening.

Among the asymptomatic patients, two include a hospital nurse and a pharmacist of the garden hospital. "We provided vaccination to 50 workers on Wednesday, besides initiating sensitization drive in the entire garden," he said, adding that all the patients were asymptomatic and were shifted to government quarantine centres.

The Dibrugarh district administration has declared the tea estate as containment zone.
