DIBGOI: Turning a deaf ear to the instructions of the police and the civil administration, street vendors, including the hotels in Jasoda area near Sani Mandir close to Gandhi Maidam, have been reportedly selling country-made liquor illegally beyond the prescribed time vitiating the sanctity of the temple and the statue of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The peace in the area is in jeopardy with the steep rise of illegal gambling locally known as ‘double guti’ being organized by a syndicate. The organized gambling, particularly on the eve of Diwali, is at its height in the area.
“Despite a blanket closure of hotels selling illegal liquors, the sale of liquor is rampant in the area posing a nuisance to females, school-going teens, daily devotees and general pedestrians in the area”, lamented a resident of the Jasoda area.
