GAURISAGAR: Dikhowmukh College convened a public meeting at its conference hall on Monday with a view to discuss about road safety measures under the aegis of Gaurisagar Bibasayee Santha in association with college media cell and Dikhowmukh Press Club.
The meeting was chaired by noted educationist Tukheswar Borthakur. The meeting broadly discussed about the frequent road accidents which take place on the NH -37 connected Gaurisagar- Dikhowmukh road. Notably, during the last three months, three people died in road mishaps and some people were seriously injured in the link road of NH-37.
Addressing the meeting, Jitu Dutta, working president of Gaurisagar Bibasayee Santha, urged the authority concerned to provide speed breakers on the road in the busy stretches. Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah, Principal of the college, sought a strong road safety committee in association with the district administration and the people of Dikhowmukh area. Khirode Khanikar, an associate professor of the college, revealed that an awareness programme on road safety would be launched soon in association with students, teachers and employees of the college.
A road safety committee was constituted with Monuj Kumar Lahon, president of Gaurisagar Bibasayee Santha as president, and Monuj Borah, singer, as secretary. In the meeting, a few important resolutions were adopted and it was decided to submit it to the authority concerned for further solution.
Before the meeting, Dikhowmukh College organized an important meeting about road safety measures and adopted a decision to make wearing of helmets compulsory for students, teachers and employees of the college.
