Tezpur: The Director of Census Operations, Assam, Narayan Konwar on Saturday reviewed the census works currently underway in Sonitpur district at a meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the presence of senior district administration officials, charge officers, and other key census officials.
Reviewing the preparations for the upcoming exercise, the Director, Census Operations asked all officials present to plan meticulously for the exercise well ahead of time in order to ensure smooth conduct of the entire process. He also discussed various aspects pertaining to a house listing, IT infrastructure, enumeration, facilities for training, engagement of manpower, among others and made necessary suggestions in this connection.
He later also attended the Field Trainers’ training and interacted with the Field Trainers who will be imparting training to the supervisors and enumerators in the next phase. Altogether, 40 persons were trained in the 4-day training which began on March 11. Speaking to the Field Trainers, Director, Census Operations, Narayan Konwar stressed the importance of the census exercise and on the need to conduct an error-free enumeration as a correct database was key for the preparation of welfare policies for the people.
The training for enumerators and supervisors will begin from March 26. An estimated 2,155 enumerators and 359 supervisors will receive this training in Sonitpur, which will be conducted in their respective charges.
The first phase of Census 2021, which includes ‘House listing and Housing Census’, will be conducted from April 20 to May 20, 2020, while the ‘Population Enumeration’ will be conducted from February 9 to February 28, 2021.
