SILCHAR: Director of Higher Education (DHE) Dharma Kanta Mili reached Silchar on Monday to probe the incident that took place at Cachar College pertaining to the holding of examination for recruitment of Grade IV on August 21.
Mili had asked Siddharth Sankar Nath, principal of Cachar College, to attend the enquiry on Tuesday in the college. The State Higher Education Department had directed Mili to conduct the enquiry on the report submitted by Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha. Mili has been asked to submit the enquiry report within three days.
Jha on August 21 lodged an FIR against Nath reportedly alleging that the Principal had violated the government rules pertaining to the holding of examination. Nath was first detained and later was arrested by Silchar police. However, he was released on PR on the same night. Meanwhile, Jha had reportedly slapped and forced a senior teacher of Cachar College Swadesh Ranjan Das when he reached the strong room for collecting the question papers for the examination. Das, who had reportedly intimated the harassment he had faced in a letter to the college unit of ACTA, did not officially lodge any complaint against the Deputy Commissioner. Interestingly, ACTA central committee has squarely blamed principal Nath for the entire incident on August 21.
