Distribution of scooties to Jeevika Sakhis at Barpeta District Library

BARPETA: "Women are very honest and loyal. They always do their work sincerely. The government wants to empower women," said State Commerce, Industries and Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Tuesday in Barpeta District Library while formally inaugurating the scheme Jeevika Sakhi under the Jeevika Sakhi Express of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, District Mission Management.

He added that if women were empowered, the society would progress. The MLA of Barpeta, Gunindra Nath Das praised the government for such initiatives for the empowerment of women. Bikash Sarma, District Information and Public Relations Officer, stated that in Barpeta district, all total 189 Jeevika Sakhis would be provided Scooty under this scheme. There are all total 13,064 Self-Help Groups (SHG) in the entire district. Almost1.44 lakh families are directly involved with the scheme in the district. Again, 108 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have already been included under the Kanaklata Women Empowerment Scheme and another 1,899 will get other aids.

In this programme, Anil Das, vice-chairman of Assam Financial Corporation, Sibani Borthakur, State Project Manager, Assam State Jeevika Abhiyan, and other dignitaries were present.
