District Road Safety Committee meet held in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: The District Road Safety Committee meeting was held on Tuesday at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner's office. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Dr P Uday Praveen and discussed awareness measures to be taken to prevent possible road accidents on the eve of the new year and the first few days of the new tear.

The meeting was attended by District Transport Officer Dibyajyoti Karji who explained the measures to be taken to prevent road accidents and a comparative explanation of road accidents occurred in Golaghat district in the last few years through a powerpoint presentation. He said several measures have been taken to prevent road accidents in the district.

Further he explained the causes of road accidents and recommendations based on field studies to prevent these incidents, road safety campaigns, publication of books on road safety.

Following the directions of the Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, they directed the concerned departments to take appropriate measures to reduce road accidents during the upcoming new year celebrations in the district. The meeting discussed the condition of NHs and several other important roads and directed to carry out necessary repair works to prevent possible accidents on those roads.

The DC directed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to submit a report on the necessary repair works of the road from Numaligarh to Dergaon by December. He also directed the inspectors of schools to conduct a road safety awareness programmes in educational institutions. He directed the Public Works (Roads) Department to identify potential accident prone areas and submit a report.

He also directed the excise department to conduct a massive raid till January. He also directed to ensure that liquor is not sold illegally around the picnic spots. The commissioner directed the Circle Officers to identify the picnic spots in the district and take measures to prevent possible accidents.

He also directed to take action against drivers driving above the speed limit as per the directives of the National Green Tribunal in the Kaziranga National Park area. The commissioner directed the Health Department to take measures to ensure adequate ambulances and doctors/nurses in hospitals.

The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur and ordered the movement of dumpers from 10 pm to 6 am. He also suggested that truck parking along the roads be stopped to prevent road accidents.
