DONKAMUKAM: The Donkamukam Municipality Board (DMB), West Karbi Anglong, issued a fresh order of total lockdown under the jurisdiction of Donkamukam town on Monday afternoon. The order will come into force from 5 am of June 17 to 5 pm of June 23.

The order was necessitated in order to lessen the spread of COVID-19 in and around the town. While talking to mediapersons, DMB Ward Commissioner Jitu Terang said that the lockdown was necessary in order to control the gatherings of people on office premises, banks and market places.

"Maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, use of sanitizers and frequent hand washing is not followed much despite several announcements," Terang said. "Also, the number of returnees is increasing day by day. Hence this step became necessary," he added. However, essential and emergency services will be exempted from the lockdown," he said.

Meanwhile, the district administration on Monday declared four more villages as containment zones, all under Kheroni PS. The villages are Mailoo Bihari Basti where Narasing Chouhan tested positive, Mailoo Nepali Basti from where Keshab Neopal tested positive, Nawaibil No. 3 Basti from where Jarahir Sah tested positive and Watizur Silvetta from where Ganashyam Chouhan tested positive.
