Doomdooma AXX, Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad observe Axom Divas

DOOMDOOMA: The Axom Divas to commemorate great Ahom King Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha was observed by Satadol Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha in association with Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Azad Road Branch on Saturday. The meeting was presided over by President Bimala Baruah, followed by a Borgeet composed by Madhavdev and rendered by Kakoli Kalita. Thereafter, the Secretary, Deben Deka, explained the objectives of the meeting.

Dr. Padmakshi Kakati, Assistant Professor, History Department of Doomdooma College, and Dwijen Sarma, Assistant Professor of the same Department, attended the programme as invited speakers.

In her speech, Dr. Padmakshi Kakati explained the role of Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha in uniting the different ethnic groups to form the greater Assamese nationality, and thus building the political framework of Greater Assam. It was Siu-Ka-Pha, who was first to give shape to the idea of Assamese nationhood, and the very basis for this was language and not the religion, she said. Another contribution of this great visionary Ahom King was the introduction of the history of the Kingdom.

After her, Dwijen Sarma also spoke briefly about Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha and its relevance to the present day Assam.

A dance item on Bhupendra Sangeet ‘Dug, dug, dug, dug dambaru’ performed by Namrata Talukdar and a song ‘Asomi aaire Lalita palita’ rendered by Debasmita Chaudhury were in keeping with the main spirit of the observance of the day. Another significant programme was the distribution and felicitation of the recipients of the life-membership-certificates of Axam Xahitya Xabha. The programme came to an end after singing the national anthem ‘O mor aponar dekh’. Axom Divas was also observed by Satadol Rupai Sakha Xahitya Xabha (SRSXX) at its venue at Tapoban, Rupaisiding on Bir Raghav Moran Path.

Associate Professor Deepak Ranjan Barua of Doomdooma College delivered a speech on Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha, Assamese Nationality and the Relevance of Assam Day”. He also advocated that the days of all the heroes of Assam should be celebrated all over Assam among the Assamese and not be limited to their respective ethnic groups, to strengthen the bonds of the Assamese nation.

Dr. Prafulla Medhi, Laksheshwar Moran, Dr. Aruna Gogoi Baruah and Dr. Meena Devi Baruah also spoke on the occasion and highlighted different aspects of the contributions of Siu-Ka-Pha in Assamese nation-building. At the meeting, 45 newly inducted life members of the Axam Xahitya Xabha were distributed certificates of recognition. The meeting was also attended by Benu Bora and Praneeta Handique, President and Vice-president of SRSXX, and students from local colleges and schools.
