Doomdooma: Journalist Paban Dutta passes away

DOOMDOOMA: Paban Dutta (67), former teacher, local scribe and a resident of Tapoban, Rupaisiding passed away on Saturday morning. He has served as a teacher in Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma from 1979 to January 2017. As a loyal and duty-bound NCC officer, he received the Presidential Award for NCC and retired from there in the rank of a Major. As one of the founders of Doomdooma Press Club, he lent his service as the secretary and the president of the club many times and was a former secretary of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA). He was the founder secretary of Doomdooma Regional Unit of Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad, founder secretary of Doomdooma Adarsha Vidyalaya and one of the founders of Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalay. He was also Assistant Secretary of Makum-Saikhiwa (Sadiya) Ralpath Surkhya Samity. He conducted efficiently the Assam Rastra Bhasha Prasar Samity, Doomdooma centre for many years.

He was a local correspondent of the weekly ‘Purbanchal Batori’, vernacular daily ‘Natun Dainik’ (now extinct) and ‘Amar Asam’ newspaper. He was best known for his fearless and investigative journalism. He contributed immensely for the welfare of the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the school where he worked.

He is survived by his only son, one daughter in-law, two married daughters.
