DOOMDOOMA: The first meeting of the ward commissioners of the newly elected Doomdooma Municipal Board (DMB) that was held at Doomdooma Marwari Panchayati Baban elected unanimously Kanta Bhattacharya of Ward No.7 as chairman and Mani Dutta of Ward No. 8 as Vice-Chairman. Earlier Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dipu Deka administered oaths to MLA Rupesh Gowala as an ex-officio member and seniormost ward commissioner Rupjyoti Konwar of Ward No. 3.

Later the first meeting was presided over by Rupjyoti Konwar and she administered oaths to eight other ward commissioners of DMB. They are Lakshmi Nag Mahajan (Ward No.1), Geetali Arandhara (W.N.2), Milan Prasad Yadav (W.N.4), Nayan Deka (W.N.5), Rupamoni Medhi!W.N.6), Indrani Lahkar (W.N.9) and Preetirekha Deka (W N.10). Of them except the lone Indian National Congress (INC) Ward Commissioner Milan Prasad Yadav, the rest were from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Nilakshi Bhuyan, Circle Officer, Doomdooma Revenue Circle cum Executive Officer Ranonmoi Bhardwaj, Circle Officer (attached) Suranjana Sarma, BJP, Tinsukia District President Kusha Kanta Bora and was addressed by ADC Dipu Deka and MLA Rupesh Gowala. The well attended public meeting which was the first of its kind to be held outside the DMB premise was anchored by leading artist Sikhajyoti Sarma.
