BARPETA: The historical Barpeta Xatra, which was established by Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva, the great disciple of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, has its own identity regarding traditions and festivals. Doul festival started on Wednesday.
The first day is called Banhutsava or Gandhajatra. Thousands of people gathered here to witness the Doul Festival. Tomorrow will be the bhar doul. A souvenir Dolay Govinda will also be released. Rising Club, Barpeta organizes holigeet competitions on the first day of Doul festival every year. The winners of the competition were given awards.
