Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s statue unveiled at Rangia

RANGIA: The statue of Sudakhanta Dr Bhupen Hazarika was unveiled here at Society Chowk near NH-31 of Rangia on Saturday night. The statue of the great Assamese singing icon was unveiled by renowned Assamese singer Dwipen Baruah. In the programme, Assam Police DGP and Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Kuladhar Saikia, social worker and founder of literary body Swar Gosthi, Girish Kalita, former Education Minister Thaneswar Boro, former local MLA Ananta Deka and other leading citizens were also present.

In his inaugural speech, singer Dwipen Baruch recollected his memories with Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Later, coinciding with the occasion, Assam Police DGP Dr Kuladhar Saikia was given a warm public felicitation by different organizations. The DGP in speech paid deep tribute to Dr Hazarika and shared his own experience while meeting Dr Hazarika during his college days in Delhi. A cultural programme was held and Bhupendra Sangeet was performed by Nayanika Sarma, Leecha Kalita and other local artistes.
