MANGALDAI: One more feather is going to be added on the cap of 'Padmashree' recipient eminent renal surgeon Dr. Sarbeswar Saharia as Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Science (SSUHS) has decided to confer 'SSUHS Life Time Achievement' in recognition of his academic contribution and service in the field of Medical Science and Medical Education. The award will be conferred on the occasion of the celebration of the Annual Day on February 17 in Guwahati Medical College Auditorium.
Few months back, Secunderabad based Krishna Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) has also conferred the "KIMS Legend Award" in an auspicious function at Secunderabad. KIMS has claimed to have achieved a rare distinction of being the only medical institute to complete 1000 kidney transplants successfully at a single unit. The KIMS in recognition to the yeoman's service of organ transplant surgeon Dr. Saharia towards mankind and for his guiding spirit and involvement to complete the 1000 kidney transplant surgeries successfully, has conferred this rare honour on Dr. Saharia.
Dr. Sarbeswar Saharia- a 'Worthy Son of the Motherland' from Mangaldai in Darrang district is the 'Chief Transplant Urologist and Senior Consultant in Kidney Transplant in KIMS, Secunderabad. He has already performed 3000 kidney transplant surgeries in different hospitals in the country. Significantly, Dr. Saharia has successfully performed kidney transplantations from 200 brain dead donors known as 'cadaver kidney transplantations', which is also a rarest of rare achievement by a single surgeon in the country. Besides a long list of awards and honours on his cap, the President of India in 2014 had conferred the 'Padmashree' award in recognition to his rare service and achievements to the society.
