Draft Delimitation: People reject inclusion of Ghunasuti in Nowboicha (SC) LAC

LAKHIMPUR: Extensive reaction has gradually erupted in the Lakhimpur district against the draft on delimitation of assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies was published by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

In the district, people from various walks of life have expressed their reactions against the draft proposal regarding inclusion of various areas in new constituencies and exclusion from the present while a section of people has extended their support towards constitution of a new Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the district.

The people of Ghunasuti have rejected the inclusion of the historically famous area in Nowboicha LAC and its exclusion from the present No. 111 Lakhimpur (headquarter) LAC. They have unanimously demanded the ECI to retain Ghunasuti in Lakhimpur (headquarter) LAC for the interest of development.

Notably, as per the Draft on Delimitation, 75 Nowboicha (SC) LAC is proposed to be reconstituted with Telahi Development Block, Bihpuria Development Block (Part) excluding- Badati Jamaguri GP, Bihpuria GP, Bahghora Dhunaguri GP (Part)- Dahgharia Block N.C, Bhalukaguri, Pub-Dikrong GP (Part) excluding- Chinatoli, Laholial, Mornoi Thengal, Naharani, Padumoni, Ghilamara Dev. Block (Part)- Barkhamukh GP (Part)- Bahguri, Ayengia Gaon, Maghura Chuk N.C, Par Ghat N.C, Garakhiya Chuksukati N.C, Subansiri GP (Part)- Patri Chuk, Bagum, Alimur, No.1 Hatimara, No.2 Hatimara, No.3 Hatimara, Chatiwana Chapari, Karunabari Dev. Block (Part) excluding- Dikrong GP, Dakhin Laluk GP, Harmoti GP, Niz Luluk GP, Uttar Luluk GP, Bangalmara GP (Part)- Ahmedpur Goan No. 1, Ahmedpur Goan No. 2, Bangalmara Thengal, Kari Pukhuri, Bangal Mara P.G.R, Bangalmara Miri, Tinthengia GP (Part). The people of Ghunasuti have expressed vehement resentment over the proposal of including the area in Nowboicha LAC. On Sunday, the people of the area, irrespective of their caste and creed, political party, organization assembled at Ghunasuti Gaon Panchayat premises by organizing a protest meeting over the issue. The protest meeting was held under the management of Ghunasuti Gaon Panchayat president Bikhananda Mili. Taking part in the meeting, Dr Dambaru Dhar Mili said that the inclusion of Ghunasuti in Nowboicha LAC would create massive problems in administrative level and it would stop the developmental activities in the area. Similarly, central committee secretary of the Jatiya Yuva Bahini, Nirmal Payeng said that his organization would never accept the proposal of including Ghunasuti in Nowboicha LAC and it would be saved as it was at any cost. He alleged that the draft on delimitation was prepared by influencing the ECI by the BJP for the political gain of some leaders close to the Chief Minister of Assam.

Greater Subansiri-Ghunasuti Developmental Committee president Manoranjan Taid, TMPK vice-president Tuniram Panging, Lakhimpur district BJP-ST Marcha former president Mukhiram Mili, Ghunasuti Mandal Congress president Ratneswar Taid, AGP Ghunasuti regional committee president Basudev Taid and various other prominent persons delivered protest lectures in the meeting. The speakers and the gathering of the meeting unanimously demanded the ECI and Government of Assam to retain Ghunasuti in Lakhimpur (headquarter) LAC.
