Tezpur: The Department of Education, Tezpur University, in collaboration with the Teaching Learning Centre (TLC), Tezpur University, on Saturday inaugurated the 15-day Refresher Course on Teacher Education (Interdisciplinary).
Dr Nil Ratan Roy, Head of the Department of Education, and Prof. DK Bhattacharjya, Dean Academic Affairs, inaugurated the program. The refresher course that started from September 6 will continue till September 20. Faculty members from various colleges and universities of Assam as well as others States of the country have joined the course.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Prof. Mihir Kanti Choudhari, former Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, and currently the Advisor of Higher Education, Government of Assam, explained various aspects of the New Draft National Education Policy (NEP), 2019 of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Discussing on various sections of NEP, 2019 such as school education which includes the age between (0-18 years), Prof. Choudhari emphasized that this period laid the foundation for higher education. He also said that the present curriculum only gave concepts, however, students had to be exposed to all the disciplines and curriculum should be student-centric.
Prof. Choudhari said that teachers in higher education should have ethics in general and related to academics. He also opined that there should be orientation/ refresher course for all the sectors such as schools, colleges, university teachers, principals, registrars and also to VCs. “In higher education, out of 8 million graduates, six million or more than that are not capable for employment,” he said.
Prof. PK Das, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Biren Das, Registrar, and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
