‘Draft on delimitation by Election Commission will secure Assam for next thirty years’: CM

LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the draft on delimitation by Election Commission of India, which was recently published, would secure Assam for upcoming thirty years if the same got approval and implemented. Dr. Sarma said so while addressing a public rally at Subansiri College premises of Lakhimpur district on Friday.

Expressing his support for the draft on delimitation, the Chief Minister said, “As a result of the efforts of the governments at the Centre and in the State, the Election Commission of India has prepared a draft on delimitation. If the draft on delimitation comes in reality, the indigenous people of Assam will have a greater say and will hold their prominence in 102 constituencies of the State. They can elect their representative. We vowed to safeguard the ‘Jati-Mati-Bheti’— the rights and interests of the indigenous communities of the State. Now we are proceeding towards the realization of our commitment. If this draft is approved and comes into reality, we will achieve what we could not achieve through the Assam Accord and National Register of Citizens (NRC). It will secure Assam for next thirty years by safeguarding the people of Assam through reallocation of constituencies.”

The Chief Minister blew the poll buggle of the upcoming general election of the nation by attending the public rally in Lakhimpur district which was organized covering the Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency. In his lecture, the Chief Minister said that the mega public rally was held to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for building a new India and new Assam after he took charge as Prime Minister of India in 2014. He also called upon the public to thank Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah for rapid implementation of the developmental schemes and projects in the nine Assembly Constituencies under Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency.

In his lecture, the Chief Minister further highlighted the successful implementation of the developmental activities by BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam and North Assam, such as the inauguration of Dhola-Sadia and Bogibeel Bridges over the Brahmaputra, implementation of the construction work of the Jorhat- Majuli Connecting Bridge, Ghunasuti Bridge, Bihpuria Majuli Connecting Bridge, Mission Basundhara, inauguration of Lakhimpur Medical College, construction of Dhemaji Medical College etc.

He informed that Union Government had approved the scheme for construction of the tunnel under the mighty Brahmaputra connecting Numaligarh of Gilaghat district and Gahpur of Biswanath district and the elevated corridor at Kajiranga from Kaliabar to Bokakhat. He further reiterated the commitment of his government to the poor class of the society by adding that ‘Antyodaya’ (helping the poor) is the pledge, objective and ideology of the BJP. The Chief Minister announced several schemes for the entrepreneur youths and women of the State. In the programme, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, MP Pradan Baruah, Jonai MLA Bhuban Gam, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley also delivered lecture.
