LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the draft on delimitation by Election Commission of India, which was recently published, would secure Assam for upcoming thirty years if the same got approval and implemented. Expressing his support for the draft on delimitation, the Chief Minister said, “As a result of the efforts of the governments at the Centre and in the State, the Election Commission of India has prepared a draft on delimitation. If the draft on delimitation comes in reality, the indigenous people of Assam will have a greater say and will hold their prominence in 102 constituencies of the State. They can elect their representative. We vowed to safeguard the ‘Jati-Mati-Bheti’— the rights and interests of the indigenous communities of the State. Now we are proceeding towards the realization of our commitment. If this draft is approved and comes into reality, we will achieve what we could not achieve through the Assam Accord and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
