KOKRAJHAR: A drafting committee for the New Education Policy of BTC, taking academicians and experts from diverse fields, was constituted on Friday to sort out the problems related to education in the council. The drafting committee will submit its report to the council within two months.
The chief of BTC, Pramod Boro in his opening remarks said that the drafting committee for the new education policy of BTC was formed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) to overcome the problems and shortcomings related to education in the region. He said that experts, academic officers and teachers were included in the committee to outline the separate education policy for BTC. The drafting committee will collect opinions and suggestions from academicians, experts and research scholars to finalize the modality of the new education policy, he said, adding that the committee would submit the report within two months.
Boro said that it was a preliminary step to give shape to the new education policy exclusively for BTC region. He said that there were many drawbacks in the existing educational policy, especially in BTC. "The teachers, guardians and officials of the education department have collective responsibility in giving quality education but on many occasions, this does not happen. Teachers of government or provincialized schools are often seen just working for the salary without any moral responsibility towards the students and their education, for which most of the schools yield poor results," he said, adding that the results of private schools were always far better despite teachers getting less salary. He called upon the teachers and officers to be aware of their moral responsibility. He also called upon the members of drafting committee to prepare the curriculum in an appropriate manner so that it is not complex for the students.
The steering committee was constituted with CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro, Principal Secretary Shantunu P. Gotmare, Secretary of Education Amarjyoti Barman, Chief of Field Officer, UNICEF, Assam, Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, Regional Head of UNDP (Northeast) John Borgoyary and community elder Sobiram Basumatary while the committee for secretarial assistance was constituted with JP Brahma, Director of Education, BTC, Victor Narzary, OSD, Department of Education, Puspadhar Das, OSD of Agriculture, BTC and Mridul Basumatary, Assistant Professor, Gyanpith College, Nikashi.
