TANGLA: A wanted National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) militant, who was in radar of the security forces for long, was killed in a police operation in the Dimachang area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border under Mazbat PS in Udalguri district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Udalguri police launched an operation in which NLFB district commander of Udalguri, Jayphrush alias N. Jwngkhwl (30) was killed. A pistol, 11 rounds of ammunition along with incriminating materials were also recovered from the spot.

Sources said the police and security forces had kept close vigil on the movement of the slain militant and acting on a tip-off, had neutralized the wanted militant. The slain militant was reportedly the deputy of the dreaded militant M.Batha, who formerly was associated with NDFB(S) and joined the mainstream, shunning the path of violence, along with other cadres of all NDFB factions during the signing of the third Bodo peace pact. But Batha returned back to the jungle to head the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) which has been involved in several extortion-related activities in the Bodo belt.

Sources also divulged that four of the accomplices of the slain militant, including a woman, were previously apprehended by the Crime Branch of Assam police in Guwahati and since then the slain militant was underground.
