TINSUKIA: After assuming charge of Doomdooma police station, Dibya Jyoti Dutta has intensified operation against illicit liquor trade in Doomdooma town.

Selling liquor in hotels in the heart of the town was a common practice allegedly carried out at the behest of police and excise officials. A few hotels in Beltola area of Doomdooma daily bazar were involved in illicit business since long and undeterred by public protest. Various organizations, including Doomdooma Press Club, time and again raised voices against the illicit den but this yielded no result.

Dutta on Wednesday launched surprise operations in several hotels and destroyed a huge stockpile of illicit liquor even as these hotels and motels were warned by Dutta earlier. Later, he told media persons that similar drive would be carried out in other places under Doomdooma police station. The media along with the tea tribe students' organization applauded the initiative of the new officer-in-charge.
