DRSC meet held for strict enforcement of helmet, seat belt in Hailakandi

Use of helmet and seat belt will be strictly enforced to reduce road fatalities in the district.

HAILAKANDI: Use of helmet and seat belt will be strictly enforced to reduce road fatalities in the district.

This was decided in a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) chaired by  cum Chairman Megh Nidhi Dahal at his office conference hall here on Sunday.

Dahal asked the transport department and police to strictly enforce wearing of helmet and seat belt and to take strict action against those for flouting road safety rules. "No one even officials or for that matter employees must be spared for non-wearing helmet and non-fastening of seat belt," said Dahal.

The meeting discussed threadbare on formation of Path Suraksha Vahini as per guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.

It emphasised on conducting road safety awareness among school and college students and distribution of road safety publicity materials.

District Transport Officer cum Member Secretary of DRSC, Syed Rafiqul Mannan informed that the meeting to make an in-depth study of accident prone areas and to suggest suitable measures to reduce road fatalities.

Dahal asked the official of PWD (NH) to erect signage on National Highways and to display hoardings about road safety signs and traffic rules

in major traffic intersections across the district.

The meeting also discussed other issues related to road safety measures.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Executive Officer, Hailakandi Municipal Board, Tridip Roy, Executive Officer, Lala Municipal Board, Jyotirmoy Daimary, Additional SP, Kulendra Nath Deka, Incharge ASTC, officials from Health, PWD (Rural Roads) and PWD (NH).
