DRSC meeting held in Kokrajhar; stress laid on minimizing road accidents

KOKRAJHAR: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Rajeev Kumar Das on Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), Kokrajhar to discuss various issues relating to road safety measures in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office, Kokrajhar.

The discussion started with explanation of purpose of the meeting by District Transport Officer Sameswar Basumatary followed by the action-taken report of previous DRSC meeting, erection of speed breakers and putting of rumble strips with road signage in all PWD roads, display of speed limit at National Highway and PWD roads, continuation of no helmet no fuel method for two wheelers, and on how to minimize road accidents in Kokrajhar district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Kumar Das said that road safety was the prevention and protection of road accidents by using all the road safety measures. He said collective efforts were required to mitigate the road accidents and urged the officers concerned to ensure close inter-departmental coordination for minimizing the road accidents and timely rehabilitation of the accident victims. He stressed organizing special road safety awareness camps so as to generate necessary awareness among the masses.

The meeting also discussed implementation of the draft notification of Assam Government regarding speed limit on national and state highways for streamlining traffic movement and minimizing risk of accidents.

To avoid the traffic congestion in Kokrajhar town, the meeting also discussed the plying of commercial vehicles and decided to restrict the entry of heavy trucks in Kokrajhar town during day time.
