Drug dealer shot dead in exchange of fire in Karbi Anglong

BOKAJAN: In a fierce exchange of gun fire between police and a gang of drug traffickers, the Karbi Anglong police have successfully gunned down a drug dealer and have recovered 626 grams of heroin worth Rs 4 crore from his possession.

Police have also recovered a 7.65 mm pistol along with 20 live ammunition from the site of the encounter. The incident took place in the Purna Lahorijan area of Bokajan adjacent to the interstate Assam-Nagaland border in Karbi Anglong district on Monday.

As per reports, an intel was developed by Karbi Anglong police about the movement of drugs through the Disapur area close to Nagaland border. Accordingly, an ambush was laid in the area by a police team of Lahorijan Patrol Post. The police team noticed a group of three person approaching from within the forested area and the team confronted them.

"Seeing our police team, one of the traffickers pulled out a pistol and fired multiple shots trying to flee the scene. In retaliation, our police team fired back at the group and later, on searching the area, the police found a person lying on the ground with bullet injuries. The injured person was immediately shifted to a local hospital where the attending doctor declared him brought dead. We are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased youth and further investigations are on," SDPO John Das said.
