Drug peddler arrested with a huge quantity of drugs, cash in Dhubri

DHUBRI: In a joint operation by Gauripur Police and CRPF, Quick Action Team, one drug peddler was arrested with a huge quantity of drugs and cash from Jhagrarpar area on the outskirts of Dhubri town on Sunday. A police source in Dhubri informed that drug peddler was identified as Rafiqul Islam. He had been allegedly doing illegal drug trade in the area since a long time from his house in the village.

Police recovered 5,000 of illicit Yaba tablets, 2 Bolirex Cough Syrup bottles, 200 empty containers and cash amount of Rs. 2.20 lakh, a police source said

The operation was conducted by 12 members from 48 Battalion of CRPF Quick Action Team along with staff from Gauripur Police Station, led by Officer-in-charge Himakshi Nath. When contacted, Officer-in-charge of Dhubri Police Station, Partha Pratim Gogoi informed that a case had been registered against the accused person under NDPS Act and follow-up action was being taken.

Around 7,920 bottles of cough was recovered from a van going to Agartala from West Bengal at Bahalpur under Chapor Police Station of Dhubri district recently. A source said that apart from being sold among the local youths, huge quantity of drugs was also being smuggled to Bangladesh by drug peddlers through some porus pockets of the border.
