Drug peddler injured in police firing at Nizuri under Misa Outpost

NAGAON: Saddam Hussain, a drug peddler, was shot at and injured at Nizuri under Misa Outpost last night while trying to escape from police after his arrest.

The injured drug peddler was immediately admitted to Jakhalabandha Hospital, where the doctor on duty referred him to Nagaon Medical College Hospital at night itself.

Sources from Nagaon police claimed that the accused was arrested along with 8 soap boxes and 6 plastic containers filled with 105 suspected narcotics like heroin near Gorumara area under Samaguri PS by a police team led by SDPO Kaliabor Rupam Bordoloi last evening while he was transporting the suspected narcotic substance on a motorcycle. The police immediately seized the narcotics as well as his motorcycle on the spot.

Subsequently, based on his statement, police took him to his house situated at Kuhumtoli under Samaguri PS and conducted a raid at the house, during which they were able to seize Rs 25,150 in cash there. Later, police took him to the Nizuri area in search of a hidden drug store at midnight. When the police team reached Hatbagan, the accused requested that the police stop the police vehicle as he felt pee, and the driver stopped the vehicle. But the accused leaped on the police personnel and tried to escape from them.

Meanwhile, police fired one round into the air to stop him. When he did not stop, a bullet was fired, aiming below his waist. As a result, the accused person finally fell down, sources said, adding that a case was registered in this regard and further legal formalities are ongoing until the time of filing this report.
